It had been almost four years since I’d returned to Louisiana, where I lived from 2010-1022. It was high time that I visited our friends, got a dose of high energy music, took a Pilates class with my favorite teacher, and enjoyed walks along Myrtle Place.

Now, when we go out to hear live music in the Bay Area, we rarely see anyone we know. That is most definitely not the case in Lafayette, LA. It was fun to say hello and have quick conversations with so many people in one night at the 15th Anniversary Concert for the Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair in Traditional Music.

The March spring-like weather allowed us to spend ample time outdoors. We especially enjoyed exploring Moncus Park, which has grown into an amazing place for people to gather and get exercise.

We appreciated the hospitality of our friends and that so many people we know were eager to get together with us so we could catch up on one another’s lives.

A highlight of the visit was hearing my new play read aloud by Louisiana actors. They provided me with insights and ideas that will contribute to the next draft of the play.

What I miss about Louisiana are our friends, the welcoming artistic community, the lively arts scene, and the unique SW Louisiana experiences.
